Our immigration clinic now offers free walk-in services at the Nigerian Center, located at 1231 Maron Barry Ave, SE, Washington DC 20020. These clinic services are available every Thursday from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. For individuals residing outside the Washington DC metro area or those who prefer a virtual consultation, or if you have inquiries, please do not hesitate to call us at (202) 330-0352 to schedule an appointment or obtain further information. Please note that there is a small $55 fee to book a virtual consultation, while walk-in services remain free. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Volunteer Info Session
About Event (Virtual)
A virtual informational session will be held on December 4 at 12:30 PM ET via Zoom for prospective Nigerian Center volunteers to learn about the various roles, expectations, and benefits of participating.
The VITA program is a rewarding way to give back to the community and an excellent opportunity to deepen your understanding of the U.S. tax system.
Volunteers will receive free certification from the IRS, equipping them to assist individuals and families with their tax preparation needs.

With the recent change in legislation, non-citizens are now eligible to vote in DC local elections. Are you an international student seeking off-campus employment authorization due to economic hardship?
This Know Your Rights workshop is an important event for international students seeking clarity on work authorization and the practical steps to take to gain authorization. There are ongoing Special Student Relief (SSR) campaigns to designate several African countries, including Nigeria, Congo, Sudan, Mauritania, and others with this status. SSR allows international students more opportunities for employment on and off campus. While these campaigns are ongoing, international students might be able to apply for immigration benefits that include off-campus work authorization individually. Topics will include, understanding F-1 visa work regulations, and navigating work authorization extensions and renewals.

Do you have undocumented family members who are minors? This workshop will provide an overview of Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), a unique path to immigration status for young people under the age of 21. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Press Conference
The Nigerian Center is thrilled to announce its new collaboration with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Sponsored by the IRS, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers a secure and convenient method for thousands of families and individuals nationwide to complete their tax filings annually. Those eligible, with an annual income of less than $64,000, can now take advantage of this complimentary service at the Nigerian Center. The center will provide free tax preparation services through both walk-in and virtual options from February 15 to April 15. A virtual press conference is scheduled for February 8 at 11:30 AM ET, welcoming members of the press and the public.

The purpose of Nigeria's National Identification Number (NIN) is to establish a centralized and unique identification system for Nigerians (home and abroad) and legal residents in Nigeria. It is a 11-digit unique number assigned to each individual, and it is linked to a person's biometric data, including fingerprints and facial recognition. It's worth noting that the Nigerian government has made the possession of a NIN mandatory for various services and activities including international passport services.
