“This project is deeply personal to me as a Nigerian filmmaker based in the United States,” said Oluyinka Davids, the documentary’s creator and director. “Over the course of two and a half years, my team and I traveled across eight states, conducting over 125 interviews to capture the essence of the Nigerian experience in the diaspora. It’s time the world sees both sides of the Nigerian narrative—through our eyes. This documentary highlights our challenges, contributions, and resilience. It’s a celebration of our rich, diverse stories, told by us and for us.”
Gbenga Ogunjimi, Executive Director of the Nigerian Center, added, “The Nigerian Center is a steward of the Nigerian brand, one of the most iconic brands to emerge from the African continent. As Nigeria rises as a cultural superpower, Nigerian Americans have become one of the leading and most dynamic immigrant groups in the United States. Telling our story is both a great opportunity and a profound responsibility. This is why this project is so important to us—it's about reclaiming the Nigerian narrative in America.”
