Nigerian Center Partners with Nigerian American Lawyers Association (NALA) to Increase Legal Aid Access for African Immigrants
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Nigerian Center is delighted to announce a significant partnership with the Nigerian American Lawyers Association (NALA) aimed at enhancing legal aid services for African immigrants in the Washington DC metro area. This dynamic collaboration will leverage NALA's extensive legal expertise to provide pro bono legal support at the Nigerian Center's immigration clinic. The services offered encompass legal screening, consultation, and in some cases, full legal representation. NALA's attorneys will actively contribute during the Nigerian Center's immigration clinic hours, both in person and virtually, and will also participate in Know Your Rights Workshops.
In 2022, the Nigerian Center established its presence in Washington, DC, and embarked on a mission to serve the Nigerian American community and other immigrant populations across the United States. This partnership exemplifies the Nigerian Center's commitment to enhancing the lives of immigrants in the United States by providing them with comprehensive support, legal guidance, and access.
Gbenga Ogunjimi, Founder and CEO of the Nigerian Center, expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership, stating, "We are thrilled to partner with NALA. Given the continually evolving landscape of U.S. immigration policies and the growing need for legal access in the African immigrant community, this collaboration provides a unique opportunity to bring expanded legal resources and, particularly, enhanced cultural competency to support our community. "
According to Richard A. Williams, President of NALA, "Our members are passionate about serving the immigrant community. We recognize the vital role that cultural understanding plays in providing effective legal assistance. This partnership will allow us to combine our legal skills with cultural sensitivity to better serve the Nigerian American community and immigrants throughout the Washington DC metro area. "
Individuals needing immigration assistance should contact the Nigerian Center online or call 202-330-0352.
The Nigerian Center is the first immigrant and cultural center dedicated to serving the Nigerian diaspora. Located in the nation's capital, the Nigerian Center was established to offer social justice opportunities to members of the Nigerian American community in the United States. Additionally, the center provides culturally sensitive transition and self-sufficiency support to newly arrived immigrants. While our name is the Nigerian Center, we are proud to serve all immigrant communities in the United States
